Cooling Down Safely Between Sauna Sessions

Cooling down after sauna sessions is encouraged, but it must always be done safely and at your own discretion. Everyone responds differently to heat and cold, and cooling methods should be chosen based on how you feel at the time.

Cooling down should never feel rushed or forced.

After leaving the sauna, allow your body time to adjust before moving into cooler environments.

  • Cool down gradually between heat and cold
  • Sit or stand calmly in fresh air before further cooling
  • Avoid sudden immersion if you feel light-headed, dizzy, or unsteady
  • Focus on slow, steady breathing during cooling periods

Cold water immersion is optional. It should only be attempted if you feel comfortable, stable, and well. If you feel unwell at any stage, stop and allow your body to recover naturally.

Outdoor conditions when cooling down after sauna

Sauna Hus operates in an outdoor, rural setting. Natural environments carry inherent risks and conditions can change throughout the day.

Please take care when moving around the site:

  • Be cautious on wet, muddy, or uneven ground
  • Wear suitable footwear when outdoors
  • Take extra care during rain, frost, wind, or low-light conditions
  • Move slowly when transitioning between heat and cooling areas

Outdoor surfaces may become slippery, particularly after rain or in colder weather.

Personal responsibility when cooling down

Cooling down is part of the sauna experience, but each guest is responsible for choosing cooling methods that suit their body, ability, and the conditions on the day.

If you feel unsure, tired, or uncomfortable at any stage, it is best to rest rather than continue cooling activities.

For full guidance on sauna use, please read our Safety, Health and Sauna Use page and Terms of Use information before your visit.

Cold exposure should always feel controlled. If you feel unwell, stop and seek assistance.
