About Us, The Sauna Hus

About us, The Sauna Hus is a lakeside, wood-fired outdoor sauna based at The Cyder Farm Campsite in rural Suffolk, close to the Norfolk border.

The name comes from Scandinavian languages, where “Hus” simply means house.
A place. A shelter. Somewhere to warm up.

Sauna Hus is pronounced:
sow-na hoos

Simple, practical, and focused on what a sauna is meant to be.

Why Sauna Hus exists

Outdoor saunas are appearing in more places across the UK. For some people, they’ve become a quieter alternative to the hustle and bustle of indoor spa settings and leisure centres. More people a learning to reconnect with nature.

Sauna Hus was created to offer that experience in a quiet rural setting.

Wood-fired heat.
Fresh air.
Time between rounds.

Nothing rushed. Nothing forced.

The lakeside sauna sits away from busy roads and coastal crowds, allowing sessions to follow natural light, seasonal changes, and a calmer pace.

The Sauna Hus is a perfect location for people visiting from Norfolk, Suffolk and further afield.

The concept of Sauna Hus was founded by Martin Grove, who was inspired by his regular use of saunas, his belief in their benefits, and his love of Scandinavia. He prefers using a sauna regularly rather than treating it as a one-off or occasional thing.

Martin Grove

He typically sauna bathes every other day, with his longest uninterrupted run reaching 28 days straight.

His approach is deliberate and simple.
Getting the löyly just right.
Quiet, relaxing music playing.
A few drops of pine tar oil added to the water.
Time for Yin yoga between rounds.

Martin uses the sauna as part of his normal routine. It’s where he slows things down and steps away from everything else for a bit.

Outside of Sauna Hus, Martin runs Vildmark. It started as a place to share fishing trips and time outdoors and has grown into a mix of writing, film, and travel built around getting outside under your own steam. You can see his videos on YouTube and his posts on Instagram. Martin loves using packrafts for his adventures and spends a lot of time packrafting, hiking and fishing in Scandinavia. His first book, about a packrafting adventure: Lakes, Lures and Laughter, is available from the Vildmark website. Martin also works closely with the travel fishing rod company Rigged & Ready, writing and testing for them, and testing other outdoor gear.

In 2026, he’ll was chosen to be one of twenty participants on the 300km Fjällräven Polar, travelling by dog sled above the Arctic Circle.

Sauna has just been part of his normal week for a long time. Regular sauna use has long been part of how he resets, both physically and mentally.

Sauna Hus is based at The Cyder Farm Campsite, owned by Luke.

Luke Andrews

Luke is newer to sauna use, but has already seen the benefits of regular sessions. What began as curiosity has quickly become part of his routine.

Luke is in the process of bringing The Cyder Farm back from long-term neglect. The site is being carefully developed into a smallholding and campsite, with a focus on land care, simplicity, and steady improvement rather than quick fixes.

Sauna Hus fits naturally into that approach and sits beautifully next to the lake at the Cyder Farm.

Sauna Hus is more than just a sauna cabin.
