Sauna Etiquette
This guidance applies to all Sauna Hus sessions unless stated otherwise.
Clear etiquette helps keep the sauna calm, comfortable, and enjoyable for everyone.

Sauna Hus follows a practical, respectful approach to sauna use, rooted in traditional Scandinavian sauna culture.
Hygiene
Good hygiene is essential in shared sauna spaces.
Please follow these guidelines:
- Clean feet before entering the sauna
- Sit on a towel at all times
- Wear suitable swimwear or use a towel, depending on your session type
Drinks are permitted inside the sauna, but for safety reasons:
- Plastic bottles only
- Glass and metal containers are not allowed, as they can become dangerously hot
Food must not be brought into the sauna.
Nudity and sauna etiquette
Sauna Hus follows traditional Scandinavian sauna culture, where sauna bathing is practical, non-sexual, and focused on heat, wellbeing, and relaxation.
Clear boundaries help everyone feel comfortable. There’s an old Finnish saying: Behave in a sauna as you would in a church.
Private sessions only
- Nudity is permitted inside the sauna cabin only during private sauna sessions
- Towels must be used when sitting on benches at all times
- Guests may choose to wear swimwear if they prefer
Steam and heat practices should always follow guidance onย lรถylyย and general sauna use.
Clothing must be worn at all times outside the sauna cabin, including walkways, seating areas, and outdoor spaces.
Respectful Sauna behaviour
Sauna Hus is a shared environment with the Cyder Farm Campsite built on mutual respect.
- Behaviour must remain respectful at all times
- Any behaviour that makes others uncomfortable may result in removal from the session
Staff guidance must be followed at all times.
Shared space sauna etiquette
During shared sessions, please:
- Keep personal belongings tidy
- Respect other guestsโ space and experience
- Keep noise to a minimum
- Allow others to enjoy the sauna at their own pace
Sauna Before Bed and Being Considerate
Many people use the sauna in the evening to unwind and prepare for sleep. At this time of day, the atmosphere is often quieter, slower, and more relaxed.
Being aware of others becomes even more important. Loud conversation, strong scents, or sudden changes in steam can disrupt that calm environment.
If you are adding water or using essential oils, always check with others first. Not everyone will want a stronger burst of heat or scent, especially towards the end of the day.
For those looking to use the sauna as part of a wind-down routine, keeping the space calm and respectful makes a big difference.
