Sauna stove and fire safety at Sauna Hus

Stove and fire safetyย is a core part of how Sauna Hus operates, from how the stove is installed to how sessions are managed.

Sauna Hus is heated using a traditional wood-burning stove operated by trained staff.

Fire safety procedures are explained to guests on arrival and form part of what to expect during a Sauna Hus session.

Our approach aligns with guidance and best practice promoted by organisations such as the British Sauna Society.

Important Safety Information

  • The stove, stones, and flue become extremely hot
  • Do not touch the stove or flue at any time
  • Keep clear of the stove area
  • Do not place personal items near the stove

Stove Operation

  • Only Sauna Hus staff may light, adjust, or manage the stove
  • Guests must not add wood or adjust airflow
  • Fire safety procedures are managed in line with the operational manual
  • If the fire is getting low please inform the staff.

Children must be supervised at all times near the stove.

Fire safety in a sauna environment relies as much on good design and routine as it does on active supervision. At Sauna Hus, the wood-burning stove is installed with clearances that exceed minimum requirements, using non-combustible heat shielding and fire-resistant surfaces throughout the stove area. This ensures radiant heat is managed safely, even during longer or hotter sessions.

Ventilation

Ventilation also plays a key role in stove and fire safety. Fresh air intake and exhaust vents are positioned in a way to support efficient combustion while maintaining a comfortable atmosphere inside the sauna. This airflow helps regulate temperature, prevents overheating, and supports safe stove operation at all times.

Staff responsibilities for stove and fire safety

Only approved, seasoned firewood is used in the stove. Firewood is stored away from heat sources and handled by trained staff only. Ash is removed carefully once fully cooled and disposed of safely. Fire-fighting equipment is kept on site and checked regularly, though the aim is always prevention rather than response.

Guests are never required to interact with the stove. Stove operation, fire management, and temperature control are handled solely by Sauna Hus staff. Clear guidance is provided on arrival, including where to sit, how to move safely around the space, and what to do if anything feels uncomfortable. These measures allow guests to relax and enjoy the sauna, knowing safety has been carefully considered throughout.
